VA
VA
March 09, 2007
Dear Friends,
I went to the VA medical center last week. I go out there pretty frequently, mostly to visit patients and sometimes to see particular programs they have.
We do a lot of case work for vets -- untying red tape when needed. We`ve gotten pretty good at it. It`s a combination of knowledge of the system and polite insistence needed to get things done.
But I wanted to push harder and get more information given the problems uncovered at Walter Reed and other VAs around the country.
I sent a lengthy list of questions to the VA and met with George Marnell and his senior leadership team.
The Albuquerque hospital is a joint VA-Department of Defense operation. If we have a problem, I wanted to hear it from the folks in charge.
The initial meeting went well, but I have more questions. I`ve sent a letter directly to the Secretary of the VA and I`ll be meeting with some vets at the end of the month. I`ll keep after it.
Wish you were here,
