TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- A federal judge has given former Putnam County [Indiana] Sheriff Mark Frisbie a two-year, six-month sentence for federal program theft.
Judge Larry McKinney ordered Frisbie to serve two months in prison, four months on home detention and two years on probation.
Frisbie was allowed to leave the courtroom after his sentence was handed down today. Frisbie's attorney, Robert Hammerle, said it could take three to six weeks for Frisbie to find out when and where he must report to prison.
Frisbie pleaded guilty and resigned his job after a federal indictment charged that he used a sheriff's department credit card and checking account to pay expenses for his consulting firm, travel expenses and campaign supplies.
A state audit found that $4,400 was missing or had been misspent.
