On March 28, Senator Norm Coleman delivered marks on the relationship between the United States and the United Nations at the Helms International Diplomacy Lecture. The lecture, entitled ‘A Progress Report on UN Reform’, was hosted by the Heritage Foundation.

On March 18, Senator Norm Coleman visited with the Minnesota National Guard 1st Brigade Combat Team stationed at Camp Shelby, Mississippi, in advance of the unit’s deployment to Iraq expected to take place on March 22nd.

On March 16, 2006, Senator Norm Coleman met with music recording superstar Jessica Simpson and members of Operation Smile, a private, not-for-profit volunteer medical services organization that provides reconstructive surgery and related health care to indigent children and young adults in developing countries and the United States. During their meeting, Operation Smile expressed their support for Sen. Coleman’s Treatment of Children’s Deformities Act, legislation to ensure that children born with a congenital deformity receive the reconstructive surgery they need to lead healthy and happy lives.

On March 8, 2006, Senators Norm Coleman (R-MN) and Jack Reed (D-RI), along with Representatives Debra Pryce (R-OH) and Michael McCaul (R-TX), unveiled the Conquer Childhood Cancer Act of 2006 at a press conference in the U.S. Capitol. This legislation is designed to provide funds to raise awareness about childhood cancer and support children and their families who are suffering from this disease. Also taking part in the press conference was a New Prague, Minnesota family with a four-year-old son who was recently diagnosed with cancer.
