On August 18, Senator Coleman held a listening forum in Winona, MN to discuss the future of transportation infrastructure in southeastern Minnesota. Recently, the President signed into law the new federal highway bill that will bring $3 billion in funding over the next five years for Minnesota’s transportation needs, including $3 million secured by Coleman to replace the highway-railroad crossings adjacent to Winona State University.

On August 18, Senator Coleman held a listening forum in Winona, MN to discuss the future of transportation infrastructure in southeastern Minnesota. On August, 19th, 2005, Senator Coleman visited Game Fair, an annual outdoor recreation and sportsmen event held six miles northwest of Anoka, MN at Armstrong Ranch Kennels to listen to the concerns of Minnesota sportsmen and outdoor enthusiasts.  Coleman convened a panel consisting of various outdoor and hunting groups including Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association, the Ruffed Grouse Society and the Minnesota Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation to discuss issues such as wildlife habitat, gun liability and other outdoor concerns.

On August 6th, 2005, Senator Coleman held three listening session in the border communities of International Falls, Baudette and Warroad regarding the recently proposed Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative.  This proposal would  require all U.S. and Canadian citizens to have a passport or one of a limited number of other accepted security document that establishes the person’s identity and nationality to enter or re-enter the United States.   During the hearing in International Falls, Coleman was joined by Ann Barrett, Managing Director of Passport Services at the U.S. Department of State, and Kim Butler, the Canadian Consul General in Minneapolis.

During his trip to Chile, Sen. Norm Coleman met with Chilean Foreign Minister Ignacio Walker to discuss Chile’s increasing leadership in Latin American affairs, and Chile’s firm commitment to international trade. U.S. exports to Chile have increased by more than 30 percent since the signing of the U.S.-Chile Free Trade Agreement.

Senator Norm Coleman enjoys local fishing on Rainy lake after holding listening sessions in the border cities of Warroad, Baudette and International Falls to hear concerns of local residents over a proposed rule that would require all U.S., Canadian, Mexican, and Bermudan citizens to have a passport or another accepted secure document establishing citizenship to enter or re-enter the U.S.
