Small Business Committee

Congressman Grijalva is proud to serve on the House Committee on Small Business, which is charged with assessing and investigating the problems of small businesses and examining the impact of general business practices and trends on small businesses. The committee has oversight and legislative authority over the Small Business Administration (SBA) and its programs, as well as provides assistance to and protection of small businesses, including financial aid and the participation of small business enterprises in federal procurement and government contracts.

Congressman Grijalva is a member of the Subcommittee on Investigations and Oversight, which has oversight of the SBA Administration, Management, and all agency practices. It can also exercise oversight of activities by the Office of the Inspector General at the SBA.

He is also a member of the Small Business Subcommittee on Tax and Finance, which has jurisdiction over issues relating to small business access to capital and finance. It also has oversight of tax policy and retirement and pension matters affecting small businesses.  This subcommittee also oversees important Small Business Administration lending and investment programs including the popular Section 7(a) loan program, 504 Certified Development Company program, small business investment company programs, disaster loan assistance programs, and micro loan programs.

Small businesses form the backbone of our economy, the strongest in the world. They account for half of our gross domestic product, more than half our jobs, and three-fourths of new jobs created each year. Leading this growth in recent years have been women and minority enterprises. Small businesses also contribute innovations in manufacturing, technology and services. Many of the biggest household name brands started out small, with just a few employees. Congressman Grijalva is dedicated to increasing opportunites for Small Businesses, to ensure that they flourish and are succesful.
