Natural Resources Committee

Congressman Grijalva serves on the House Committee on Natural Resources, which has jurisdiction over legislation addressing conservation, wildlife, public lands, and Native Americans. As a member of the committee, the Congressman has worked toward goals such as comprehensive mining reform, the creation of a renewable energy portfolio, a solution for the problems attendant to law enforcement in Indian Country, and the fair and consistent implementation of the Endangered Species Act.

Congressman Grijalva is also the Chairman of the Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests, and Public Lands. As chairman, he has presided over recent hearings on wildfire preparedness, carbon sequestration, and land-use issues in oil and gas leasing development, as well as hearings on the designation or enlargement of numerous National Parks and Heritage Areas. He is a member of the Congressional Climate Change Caucus, the Congressional National Parks Caucus, and the Congressional National Wildlife Refuge Caucus, and serves as the co-chairman of the Congressional National Landscape Conservation System Caucus.

During the 110th Congress, Representative Grijalva will advance a Natural Resources policy portfolio focused on responsible environmental stewardship and a recognition of the importance of ecological conservation. To this end, he has sponsored legislation that seeks to make permanent the National Landscape Conservation System, to designate wilderness in the seventh congressional district of Arizona, as well as a bill to reconcile the demands of a robust border security system with the need to protect our border's myriad ecological resources.

Congressman Grijalva also serves on the Subcommittee on Insular Affairs, which is responsible for the general management of the United States' insular territories, including Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, and the Virgin Islands. The Congressman recently flew to St. Thomas to take part in field hearings on several bills dealing with land transfers and other issues pertaining to insular affairs. Rep. Grijalva is a member of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus.
