This legislative session, Congresswoman Johnson has pursued a legislative
agenda focused on ensuring fairness and equality for all Americans,
empowering small businesses, lifting Americans out of poverty and boosting funding for scientific research and
education.
Congresswoman Johnson has introduced the following legislation for the
107th Congress:
H.Con.Res.211:
To express the sense of
the House of Representatives that the Bush Administration should send a high
level delegation to participate in the United Nations World Conference
Against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance.
H.Con.Res. 290:
Expressing the
sense of the Congress that women throughout the world should join together
for a week of workshops, forums, and other events to speak up for world
peace.
H.R. 886: To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to
exclude unemployment compensation from gross income. Introduced
03/06/01.
H.R. 1113:
To amend the Small Business Act to direct the
Administrator of the Small Business Administration (SBA) to establish
an office within the Administration to conduct oversight of certain loan
programs and for other purposes. The SBA acts as a loan guarantor to
encourage banks to loan money to businesses in economically depressed
areas. The bill calls for an office within SBA that would ensure that
the banks who make loans buttressed by SBA follow the policies SBA mandates
with regards to the Community Reinvestment Act which ensure that SBA loans
are available to everyone based on fair standards. These standards are
designed to safeguard against bad loans to protect funding sources and allow
for more good loans.
H.R. 1472:
To authorize appropriations for fiscal years
2002-2005 for the National Science Foundation. The bill would lead to
a doubling of funding for the National Science Foundation, which directs a
significant amount of federally funded scientific research.>

H.R. 1585:
To provide for a study regarding the proximity of
federally assisted housing to hazardous waste sites. The bill would
lead to greater understanding of the extent to which poorer people living in
federally subsidized housing are endangered because of hazardous waste
nearby.
H.R. 1660:
To develop a demonstration program through the
National Science Foundation to encourage interest in the fields of
mathematics, science and information technology. The program would
promote more effective math, science and technology education.
H.R. 1715:
To designate the facility of the United
States Postal Service located at 8624 Ferguson Road in Dallas, TX as the
"Cesar E. Chavez Post Office Building".
H.R.1994:
To waive the time limitation specified by law for the award of certain military decorations in order to allow the
posthumous award of the congressional medal of honor to Doris Miller for actions while a member of the Navy during World War
II.
H.R.2104:
To amend the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961 to authorize the provision of education and related services to law
enforcement and military personnel of foreign countries to prevent and control HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis.
H.R.2343: To support research
and development programs in agricultural biotechnology and genetic
engineering targeted to addressing the food and economic needs of the
developing world.
H.R. 2912:
To authorize the
National Science Foundation to establish a grant program for partnerships
between U.S. research organizations and those in developing countries for
research on plant biotechnology.

3775: To designate the facility of the United States Postal Service
located at 1502 East Kiest Boulevard in Dallas, Texas, as the "Dr.
Caesar A.W. Clark, Sr. Post Office Building."

4669:
The Racial Equity and Fair Treatment Act of 2002, to reauthorize
federal welfare programs. This legislation would establish data
collection standards by race to help states prevent discrimination and
monitor racial performanceof their welfare programs, remove current
restrictions on the participation of legal immigrants in welfare programs
and provide for translation and interpretation services.

To designate the facility of

Texas, as the "Francisco 'Pancho' Medrano Post Office Building".
H.AMDT.210 to H.R. 2506:
An
amendment to H.R. 2506 to increase funding for the Global Environment
Facility account by $25 million.
H.AMDT.339 to H.R. 2646:
Amendment inserts a section regarding agricultural biotechnology research
and development for the developing world.
H.AMDT.353 to H.R. 2646:
An
amendment to provide $25 million for child nutrition programs for each
fiscal year through 2011.
