CONGRESSWOMAN EDDIE BERNICE JOHNSON STATEMENT ON VETERANS DAY

Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson today released the following statement on Veterans Day, which is observed tomorrow, November 11:

"Each year on November 11, we have the opportunity to thank and honor the veterans who have served our country so bravely. Our nation’s 24 million veterans have ensured the safety of the United States, often at great risk and sacrifice to themselves. The debt we owe them is immeasurable.

"But our commitment to our veterans and servicemembers extends well beyond November 11. In this Congress, we have provided our veterans with a new GI Bill, restoring the promise of a four-year college education for veterans of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. We have increased funding of the VA system by $16 billion, including the largest single-year increase in the 77-year history of the agency. And we have modernized and streamlined access for veterans to the benefits they so deserve.

"Our work will continue in the next Congress. I will do my part to support our troops and their families."
