Charles Dickens opens his novel, "A Tale of Two Cities," with these frequently cited words: "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times..." Penned in 1859, these words could easily have been written today.
We are living in contradictory times. We are struggling to find peaceful solutions in Africa and the Middle East where conflict is an everyday condition, for a steadier world economy, and for better protections for our natural resources.
We are also celebrating advances in science, technology and medicine that were inconceivable a few short years ago. We are making advances in communications and the human understanding that communication brings.
Our faith in God, love of family and friends, and devotion to country are stronger than ever.
In this Thanksgiving Week, it is good to celebrate...
