COUNTY FOCUS

Chaves - Located in southeastern New Mexico, Chaves County was founded in 1887 by breaking off from its parent county, Lincoln County.

Curry - Curry County is home to the city of Clovis and the Cannon Air Force Base.

DeBaca - Located in central New Mexico, DeBaca County is home to the ruins of Fort Sumner and the Bosque Redondo Reservation along the Pecos River in the town of Fort Sumner.

Eddy - In 1889, Eddy County was created from Lincoln County. In name, it recalls enterprising developer Charles B. Eddy, who, with his brother, helped to build up the area that became Eddy County.

Lea - Located in the southeastern corner of New Mexico, with an average elevation of 4,000 feet, Lea County was named for Captain Joseph Calloway Lea, the first mayor of Roswell and founder of the New Mexico Military Institute.

Lincoln - Lincoln County is home to many historical sites. The village of Capitan is the resting place for one of the most famous of all New Mexicans - Smokey Bear.

Quay - Quay County is home to Ute Lake, the Caprock Ampitheater, and Tucumcari Mountain. The county seat is in Tucumcari.

Roosevelt - Roosevelt County was established on February 28, 1903 and named for the twenty-sixth President of the U. S., Theodore Roosevelt.
