Stabenow,
Levin Announce Over $1.7 Million for Michigan Firefighters
|
WASHINGTON
— U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced
today that 24 Michigan organizations have been awarded $1,716,518 through
the Department of Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program
(AFGP). This funding will be used to provide the training and safety equipment
necessary to protect firefighters, as well as the tools needed to keep
our communities safe.
“Communities throughout Michigan rely on first responders to keep them safe when emergencies arise,” said Stabenow. “Ensuring that our firefighters are equipped to handle situations they may encounter while staying as safe as possible is crucial for their protection and the public’s well-being as a whole.” “These federal dollars will help purchase protective gear and other equipment that Michigan’s firefighters and first responders need to do their jobs safely and effectively,” said Levin. “Communities throughout Michigan depend on the protection our firefighters provide, and this funding will help them prepare for the dangers they face on a daily basis.” The AFGP awards grants directly to fire departments and EMS organizations to improve the effectiveness of operations and health and safety programs, and to establish or expand fire prevention programs throughout the United States. Grants are awarded competitively through an application process. More information can be found at http://www.firegrantsupport.com/. Individual grant awards can be found in the table below.
