The funding comes as part of the Edward Byrne Memorial Discretionary Grant Program.

“Providing the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety with the proper training equipment they need is a critical step in keeping they community safe,” said Stabenow. "I’m heartened to know that this funding will provide the Department of Public Safety with the vital resources and training they need to provide protection and enhance the safety for the residents and families of Kalamazoo.”

“These federal dollars are an important resource to help Michigan’s law enforcement agencies stay up-to-date and effective in the fight against crime,” said Levin. “This localized funding will help provide the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety with the resources and the technology they need to keep our communities safe.”
