WASHINGTON
—U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced
today that the U.S. Department of Justice is awarding a total of $514,251
to Muskegon and Detroit to help reduce recidivism rates among former offenders
and provide them with job placement assistance. The funding will be awarded
to the Jail Diversion and Reentry Pilot Project of Muskegon County and
the Bridge to Success Transitional Jobs Program of the Detroit Workforce
Development Department as part of the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistant
Grant Program.
“Our local agencies constantly face new challenges and new responsibilities in protecting the people of Michigan and helping former offenders reenter the work place,” Stabenow said. “These grants represent our continued commitment to work in partnership with Michigan communities to help them meet these challenges.” “This Justice Department funding will aid Muskegon and Detroit in their fight to reduce crime in their communities,” said Levin. “We depend on local law enforcement every day and these grants will help each community prevent crime before it starts.” The Edward Byrne grant program supports
state and local governments and Indian tribes in their efforts to the
prevention and control of crime. The program takes local needs and conditions
into account and provides funding for a variety of purposes, including
targeted initiatives, technical assistance, personnel, training, equipment
and supplies. Please see the table below for the details regarding each
individual grant.
