  • September 17: Boys & Girls Clubs of America Congressional Breakfast - [Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) gave brief remarks at the Boys & Girls Clubs of America Congressional Breakfast on September 17 in Washington, DC.  Leahy has been a longtime supporter of youth programs and brings millions of dollars the Boys & Girls Clubs each year.]
  • September 4: Groundbreaking For National Life Cancer Treatment Center - [Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) spoke at the groundbreaking for the new cancer center at Central Vermont Medical Center (CVMC) in Berlin, Vt. on September 4, 2008. The center will provide radiation therapy to cancer patients who currently have to travel to either Burlington or Lebanon.   • September 3: Groundbreaking For New Connecticut River Transit Facility - [On September 3, 2008, Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) visited the site for Connecticut River Transit's new 20,000-square-foot transit facility in Rockingham.  Leahy secured $3 million for the $3.66 million project.  This site will house a new transit facility and bus terminal, as well as a new park and ride lot. Connecticut River Transit is expected to move into the facility next spring. ]

  • June 27: Red Sox Trophy Visits Perri Family - [On June 27, the Perri family received a special visit from the 2007 and 2004 Red Sox World Series trophies. Eleven-year-old Ross Perri was diagnosed with leukemia late last year and recently underwent a bone marrow transplant. Ross and his brother Anthony are both big fans of the Lake Monsters and Red Sox and are unable to attend a game because of Ross's weakened immune system. Sen.   • June 26: Senate Confirms Two Judicial Nominations - [Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) gave a floor statement on June 26, 2008, on the confirmations of G. Murray Snow for the District of Arizona and William Lawrence for the Southern District of Indiana.  While the Senate confirmed a total of five judges this week, Leahy spoke about many of the other concerns Americans are facing today.  Click here to watch video excerpts or read Leahy's full floor statement.]
  • June 24: Senate To Vote On Three Judicial Nominations- [On June 24, 2008, Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) gave a statement on the Senate floor on judicial nominations and later that night, the Senate confirmed three nominees.  The nominees are Judge Helene White and Raymond Kethledge, both of Michigan,  for the Court of Appeals, and Steven Murphy for the Eastern District of Michigan.  Click here to watch or listen to Leahy's statement on the floor or to read his comments.]
  • June 12: Comment Of Senator Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) On Supreme Court Ruling In Boumediene v. Bush - [On June 12, 2008, Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) gave brief comments on the Senate floor in reaction to the Supreme Court's decision regarding the right of habeas corpus.  In Boumediene v. Bush, the Supreme Court ruled that provisions designed to strip away the right for Guantanamo Bay detainees to challenge their detention are unconstitutional.  Click here to watch or listen to Leahy's statement on the floor or to read his comments.]
  • June 3: Senators Feinstein And Leahy And Representative McGovern Introduce Joint Resolution Calling On The United States To Sign International Treaty Banning Cluster Bombs - [Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) is pictured above with Associate Professor Ken Rutherford of Southwest Missouri State University, at a world conference in Dublin in May that was convened to launch a worldwide treaty to ban the use of cluster weapons.  Senator Leahy and Ken Rutherford have long been partners in their crusade to end the use of antipersonnel landmines.  In 1993, Ken Rutherford became a bilateral lower leg amputee after his vehicle ran over a landmine while conducting humanitarian work in Somalia.  Now Senator Leahy and Ken Rutherford are teaming up again, to help reduce the civilian casualties caused by cluster munitions, which contain small bomblets that are sometimes used in or near civilian settlements.  On June 3, Leahy and Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) introduced a joint resolution calling on the U.S. to sign the new treaty, forged in Dublin by 111 nations, to ban cluster munitions.  Click here to read more.]

  • January 23: Justice For All Act - [On Wed. Jan. 23, the Senate Judiciary Committee convened a hearing concerning oversight of The Justice For All Act, which provides defendants of the most serious of crimes with grants for counsel and access to post-conviction DNA testing. Leahy worked hard to include The Justice For All Act as part of the Innocence Protection Act in 2004. Leahy is pictured above with Kirk and Brenda Bloodsworth. Mr. Bloodsworth was the first person in the United States to be exonerated by DNA evidence.
