The Food Stamp Program

The Food Stamp Program is a critical part of the campaign against hunger.  Every day through this program, millions of low income individuals are able to buy food for their tables.  As a former chairman of the Agriculture Committee, and the current chairman of the Subcommittee on Nutrition and Food Assistance, Sustainable and Organic Agriculture, and General Legislation, I have long had an interest in ensuring that access to this program is widely available.  Most recently, I am working with my colleagues in Congress to pass the 2007 Farm Bill, which will expanded eligibility and access to Food Stamps for working families and children.   For more information about the Farm Bill, please visit the Agriculture section of my web site.

Eligibility for the Food Stamp Program is on an individual's resources and income.  To see if you are eligible for food stamps and for information on how to apply for assistance through the Food Stamp Program, please visit the VermontFoodHelp.com website.

The Congressional Research Service provides members of Congress with non-partisan research and analysis of legislation and issues.  It's my goal to make all of these reports available to the tax payer.  You can read more about my efforts here.  Until then, I've made the below reports available in PDF form to help you research this issue further.
