Immigration

This is a country founded by immigrants but America's current immigration problems are a threat to national security and the economy. We must crack down on illegal immigration and those who employ illegal aliens without threatening the American dream for those who play by the rules. I have long supported legislation to secure the U.S. – Mexico border, including prohibiting the creation of a NAFTA Superhighway, and toughening up immigration laws.

I have also always been a strong proponent of making English the official language of America. People should be proud of and embrace their native tongue but English is the language of commerce and in order to do business we must have one official language. Therefore, I have cosponsored H.R. 997 the English Language Unity Act and H.R. 4464 the Common Sense English Act, both stating that business should be done in English. Legal immigration is good for our country but we must be watchful of those that try to take advantage of our system in order to keep or families and friends safe.
