Gerlach Receives Speaker's House Honor

The Speaker's Choice Award recognizes outstanding leadership and on-going commitment to perserving the home of the first Speaker of U.S. House

Congressman Jim Gerlach (PA-6th District) received The Speaker’s Choice Award for supporting efforts to preserve the former home of Frederick Augustus Muhlenberg, who served as the first speaker of the United States House of Representatives.

The Speaker’s House Board of Trustees recognizes individuals who have exhibited outstanding leadership and an on-going commitment to the Speaker’s House in Trappe.

Congressman Gerlach has worked with the board to ensure that this local historic treasure is preserved for future generations. In 2005, Congressman Gerlach helped secure $300,000 in the federal budget to aid in the restoration of The Speaker’s House.

The Speaker’s Choice Award was presented to the congressman during the annual meeting of The Speaker’s House Board of Trustees at the Augustus Lutheran Church in Trappe, Pa.
