Internships

I am currently accepting applications for internships in my Washington, DC office and Merced, Modesto and Stockton District offices. Applicants from the 18th Congressional District will receive first priority.

Washington , D.C. Office:

If you are interested in public service and the legislative process, my Washington, DC Congressional internship program is a great way to get first-hand experience working in our nation's Capitol.  Interns perform a number of duties including giving Capitol tours, writing constituent correspondence, answering phones, attending committee hearings and working on other special projects.

Potential candidates for the Washington program should have a solid work ethic and be willing to contribute whatever is needed in a team environment. College graduates are preferred, as applicants tend to work full-time Monday to Friday between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Applicants must be at least 21-years-old .

To apply for the internship, please submit a resume and cover letter stating why you are interested in the position. A brief phone interview may be necessary. Summer months fill quickly and applicants are encouraged to apply early.

All Washington, D.C applications should be addressed to the attention of my Intern Coordinator, Sean Trambley, via email sean.trambley@mail.house.gov. Although this position is unpaid, interns may receive academic credit for their work.

(Internship lengths are flexible, and students on the quarter system may apply.)

California District Offices:

If you live in the 18th Congressional District of California, I am currently accepting applications for internships in my Merced , Modesto and Stockton District offices.

Intern responsibilities include greeting constituents and handling constituent phone calls, assisting staff with administrative tasks, conducting legislative research and assisting with constituent correspondence.

To apply for a district internship, please submit a resume and cover letter stating why you are interested in the position. A brief phone interview may be necessary. Summer months fill quickly and applicants are encouraged to apply early. Applicants for the district program do NOT need to be 21 years old.

Meet the Current Cardoza Interns:

Washington, DC

Jessica Romero

A California native, Jessica came to Washington D.C. to intern with the Leon Panetta Institute program. She is currently working on a B.A. in Political Science from California Polytechnic University of Pomona. In her free time, she enjoys rock climbing, hiking, and reading. Jessica aspires to continue her involvement in politics after she graduates.

 

California District Offices

Patrick Lauppe

A senior at Golden Valley High School , Patrick has been involved in the Student Political Education & Action Club, and the Cougar's Marching Band. While his long-term goals are uncertain, he believes that the chance to work for a politician with the caliber of Dennis Cardoza is a rare and exciting opportunity.

 

Derin Coleman

Derin is a student at UC Merced majoring in Political Science and Business Management. His family moved from Oakland to live in Patterson in west Stanislaus County. Derin participated in America Lead, a youth leadership program, and had the honor of speaking with Representative Cardoza while on a tour. "The ten minutes I spent with him changed my life."

 

Alex Lovato

Alex is a second year student at Merced Community College with interests in public administration at the County level. He plans to transfer to UC Davis to major in Business Administration and Political Science and go on to earn an MBA. Alex is very enthusiastic about being an intern and hopes to broaden his understanding of the demands constituents place on a legislators as well as his understanding of political processes.

 

Jay Saelee

A senior at Golden Valley High School , Jay is a Merced native. He is employed part-time and an active member of the school's Culinary Club, FHA-HERO, and band. He aspires a career in public service including elected office possibly making his way towards the White House.

 

Janette Torres

Janette just got accepted to a program with the Mercy Hospital serving in the emergency room—an exciting step for her future in medicine. She is a senior at Golden Valley High School, with a keen interest in the fields of medicine, politics, business, and charities that will empower our society towards a brighter future. Look out recruiters! Janette is applying to colleges and universities including UC Santa Cruz and Stanford.
