Federal Funding

Federal Grants Workshop at Piedmont Community College on the Person County Campus in Roxboro Rep. Miller held a Federal Grants Workshop for Caswell, Person and Granville Counties to offer assistance and education for the federal grants process to organizations in the 13th Congressional District that have limited experience with federal government grant applications or were new to the grant process.

Representatives from the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Education, the Department of Commerce, the Department of Justice, the Department of Labor, the Department of Homeland Security, and Housing and Urban Development conducted workshops on how to apply for and receive competitive grants through their agencies. Some 83 representatives from various municipalities, schools, non-profits, churches, first responders and individuals seeking funding for new programs attended the workshop.

"Grants help bridge the gap for funding on badly needed services in our communities,” said Rep. Miller. “It’s important for our organizations to learn the grant process as a launch pad for innovative new programs and ideas.”

Force Protection Tour in Roxboro Congressman Brad Miller, along with several other dignitaries, attended the opening of the Cheetah light armored vehicle plant that will bring 270 jobs to the Roxboro area.

Force Protection Inc., the world's leading manufacturer of ballistic- and blast-protected vehicles, will build a plant in Roxboro. Over the past five years in Person County, the region has lost more than 1,700 manufacturing jobs. Force Protection will bring approximately 270 jobs and $31 million to the 13th District of North Carolina. The Force Protection Company will produce the Cheetah, a ballistic and blast-protected vehicle, that will be used by the United States military. The vehicle was designed to better protect troops on the front lines from deadly improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

Congressman Miller said the Cheetah’s design will reduce causalities by as much as 80 percent. He said the plant is well positioned - in proximity to the center of federal clout in Washington, D.C., and to the brainpower of the Research Triangle area. He noted that Site Selection magazine again ranked North Carolina the nation’s number one business climate. The magazine provides expansion planning information to business executives, and Force Protection’s commitment to Person County was the magazine’s November cover story.

William Wilde Medal Presentation Congressman Brad Miller presented the Bronze Star Medal, the WWII Victory Medal and several other service medals to Mr. William Wilde, a World War II Veteran, at the Person County Library in Roxboro. Rep. Miller’s office assisted Mr. Wilde in getting WWII medals that he earned and never received.

“In honoring those of our greatest generation, we are reminded of the many servicemen who risked life and limb in WWII and now live among us as humble citizens,” said Rep. Miller. “Mr. Wilde’s heroic service should be shared with his community.”
