Millions of your dollars for sidewalks, scenic overlook, urban boulevard, butterflies, bunnies, boats, waterfront ...

They just keep coming!

As if rabbits needed any help .... Federal money to be spent by Fish and Wildlife Service rehabilitating habitats for cottontail rabbits to encourage population growth.

"I run into people fairly constantly who say, '25 years ago, I always saw rabbits, I saw them every day as a kid, we ate them all the time,'" said Kate O'Brien, a wildlife biologist with the Rachel Carson Wildlife Refuge.

You simply can't make this stuff up! What's next, a subsidy for fleas and mosquitos?

Prescott to spend unused federal money while it is still available.  The time is ticking on the availability of block grant funding for Prescott, AZ and it doesn’t want to miss out on its share of the federal pie.  The city has decided that rather than investing in needed housing projects, it will instead blow the remainder of its money on sidewalks.  Such is the case across where small cities do no want to risk losing the opportunity to spend free federal money.

Maine to Receive $15 Million to Prop Up Boat-Building Industry

Federal grant money will be used in part to help the Advanced Engineer Wood Composite Center.  The Federal Government has apparently decided to get into the boat building business, and is sending $15 million to help prop up the local boat building industry in Maine .  It is unclear from this article why the boatbuilding industry is in particular need of a federal bailout.

$100,000 Grant to Upgrade Waterfront To Meet Recreational Needs of Boat Owners

Visiting owners with large boats said to need better access to Antioch waterfront, receive federal funding.  The Federal Government’s Boating and Infrastructure Grant Program has provided funding for a “day-use” marina to increase the recreational opportunities for visitors to Antioch, CA .  The money is said to be helpful in spurring on the local economy by improving the ability of owners with boats longer than 26-feet to tie up their boats to the dock.

USDA Funds Studies for the “Backyard Bobcat” and “Karner Blue Butterfly”

State grants by the Fish and Wildlife Service spend millions on projects to track animal behavior.  Projects all over the country to track the behavior of animals are being funded by taxpayers through the USDA Fish and Wildlife Service to understand the behavioral patterns of various species.  It is unclear why these projects require federal funding, and cannot obtain it from local or private sources.
