$700 million to destroy and relocate a rail road in Mississippi

RR just underwent $300 million in repairs

This week the powerful Senate Appropriations Committee approved $700 million of dollars to destroy, relocate, and rebuild a rail line in Mississippi damaged by Hurricane Katrina as part of the $107 billion emergency spending package for hurricane recovery and the Global War on Terror.  This rail line recently underwent $300 million in repairs and owner CSX Transportation has said there is nothing wrong with the line that warrants its destruction and relocation.

The coastal area delegation wants to move the rail line to address traffic congestion.

Read more about this $700 million non-emergency spending in the emergency spending bill here in this Associated Press article.
