The Department of Health and Human Services proposed regulations that would protect the right of health care professionals to practice according to their conscience. This eliminates the physicians being forced to violate their conscience in order to remain in good professional standings. Earlier this month Dr. Coburn and several other senators sent a letter to Health and Human Services Secretary Mike Leavitt urging him to initiate and complete the rule-making process to guide the implementation and enforcement of these provisions.
