  • Africa
    Mr. Conyers co-authored several letters regarding the security and conditions in Sudan, the need for increased peacekeeping in Africa, Debt Relief for Mozambique and other poor African countries.
  • Education
    Mr. Conyers believes that education should be a priority for the Bush Administration and this Congress. Education is a non-partisan issue, and we must use non-partisan methodsto find a solution to the problems facing our schools.
  • Haiti
    Mr. Conyers has co-sponsored several pieces of legislation supporting relief aid to Haiti and other issues regarding US-Haitian relations, such as Temporary Protected Status, or TPS, for Haitians. Mr. Conyers has been one of Haiti's strongest supporters in Congress.
  • Healthcare
    Since 2000 Mr. Conyers has fought for guaranteed affordable healthcare for all Americans by introducing H.R. 676, The United States National Health Insurance Act (or the Expanded and Improved Medicare for All Act).
  • Jazz
    Congressman Conyers is well known as a patron of the arts, and is renowned for his love of jazz. In his role as a federal legislator, he has successfully fought for greater recognition and funding for jazz. In 1987, the Congress passed Conyers" House Concurrent Resolution 57 designating jazz a "national American treasure." In 1990, the Congressman won passage of a resolution commemorating tap, a form of dance closely associated with jazz.
  • Labor
    Mr. Conyers has been a champion for Labor and workers' rights his whole career.
  • Reparations
    Since 1993, Mr. Conyers has introduced H.R. 40, Commission to Study Reparation Proposals for African Americans Act.
  • Toxic Mold
    In 2003, Mr. Conyers introduced H.R. 1268: The United States Toxic Mold Safety and Protection Act.
  • Judiciary
    In addition to his work representing the people of Michigan's 14th Congressional District; Mr. Conyers serves as Chairman of the House Committee on the Judiciary. One of the most important committees in Congress, the Judiciary is tasked with the responsiblitiy of oversight of the Department of Justice (including the FBI) and the Federal Courts. Additionally, the Committee has jurisdiction over copyright, constitutional, consumer protection, civil rights issues, and voting rights.
