harkin: $3 million for iowa to help rebuild iowa's economy after historic floods

Washington, D.C. – Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) today announced that the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration has awarded the Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management Division a grant of $3 million.  The funding supports development of a flood recovery strategy to assess damage and speed economic recovery efforts to the eastern Iowa communities that were severely impacted by the recent Midwest storms.

“When this historic disaster struck earlier this summer, I promised Iowans to work as quickly as possible to secure the funding that would allow our state to rebuild.  This grant announcement represents one of the first releases of funding for this process,” said Harkin.  “There is much work to be done for many Iowans who lost everything and for Iowa businesses and communities struggling to rebuild.  In Congress, we will continue to work for the resources the Midwest needs until this mission is accomplished.”
