harkin announces nearly $100,000 to fight crime in iowa communities

WASHINGTON, D.C. —Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) today announced that the Governor’s Office of Drug Control Policy received a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice for $99,081. The investment will be used to fund the Project Safe Neighborhoods program.

Project Safe Neighborhoods focuses on fighting gun crimes, fully investigating illegal gun-related activity, and diverting at-risk children from joining gangs.

"One of the reasons Iowa is such a great place to live is because we have safe communities of all sizes. We can continue to keep crime off our streets and prevent kids from turning to a life of crime by investing in law enforcement programs like Project Safe Neighborhoods that work,” said Harkin. “I am glad that Iowa has received these critical dollars to fight crime.”
