harkin announces more than $300,000 to help crime victims in iowa

WASHINGTON, D.C. —Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) today announced that the Iowa Department of Justice will receive a grant from the U.S. Dept. of Justice for $333,000 to expand the IowaVINE program.

The IowaVINE program is an initiative that updates crime victims with timely information regarding their case, while being able to maintain total anonymity. The program allows victims to participate in the judicial process and make informed decisions to protect themselves from further victimization. The system is available to courts, corrections and law enforcement officials in Iowa.

"This innovative program keeps crime victims informed while also allowing them to maintain their privacy," Harkin said. "This discreet service allows those who have been victimized the information they need to cope with their experience and ultimately to move on with their lives. I am very glad the federal government is a partner in this program that integrates a number of state and local agencies."
