Throughout my career in public service, I have fought for the issues and values important to Connecticut's families and to all Americans. I'm proud of what we have achieved together, and I'm committed to building upon our success in the future.
Security Senator Lieberman is recognized as one of the nation’s leading statesmen and military experts, providing strong, principled and far-sighted leadership in defending our national security. He has led efforts in the Senate to protect our homeland from terrorist attack, to support our armed forces and modernize our military, to confront dictators, and to fight for human rights and democracy worldwide. Economy Senator Lieberman believes that America must regain its economic strength and create new jobs through pro-growth, fiscally-responsible, entrepreneurial national leadership. Throughout his Senate career, he has championed innovative ways of empowering all Americans to compete in the global economy and secure their families’ financial future. Environment Senator Lieberman has been a passionate and effective advocate for protecting and improving our environment since his days as a state legislator in Connecticut. Over the years, he has fought polluters, challenged businesses to raise environmental standards, held government enforcement agencies accountable, and taken the lead to confront global environmental threats. Health and Social Policy Expanding access to quality health care for America’s families is a top priority for Senator Lieberman. Throughout his Congressional career he has stood up for patients' rights, fought to raise health care quality and standards, held providers accountable, supported medical research, and focused on promoting and protecting children’s health. Faith, Family, and Values Senator Lieberman has been a powerful advocate for parents who are concerned about the lessons children -- particularly pre-adolescents -- are learning from the accumulation of violent and sexually explicit messages they are exposed to on a daily basis through movies, music, television, video games and the Internet. He has challenged entertainment industry leaders to exercise greater restraint and responsibility in choosing which products to make and how to market them. And, he has asked these producers to help make the hard job of raising children in today's 500-channel digital universe a little easier by giving parents the tools they need to make informed choices for their kids. Education Senator Lieberman has spearheaded efforts to reform America’s educational system by boosting federal funding, expanding access to quality education, challenging educators to raise standards, and providing all Americans with the skills to compete in the global economy. Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Under the chairmanship of Senator Lieberman, the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, focused on the nation's homeland security, on corporate accountability, and on the Bush Administration's weakening of environmental regulations. Committee legislation enacted into law under Lieberman's leadership includes laws creating the Homeland Security Department, establishing an independent commission to examine the causes of the September 11th attack, and facilitating the transition to electronic government, by requiring the federal government to make more information and services available to the public online.
