For more than two centuries, our men and women in uniform have served this country with great valor and distinction, writing the history of the 20th century with bold strokes of courage. They gave their all to uphold freedom and defend liberty. They are heroes.
Our nation’s veterans honored us with their service when we needed them most, and we must continue to honor them now when they need us most. As President Calvin Coolidge once said, "The nation which forgets its defenders will itself be forgotten."
As the representative for so many veterans, it is my privilege and honor to recognize and pay tribute to all who answered the call to protect this great nation. I continue to be an ardent supporter of key veteran issues such as concurrent receipts and enhancement of survivor benefits.
Veterans have set before us a shining example of selfless patriotism and tremendous sacrifice. We, as a district, state and nation, owe so much to them. Therefore, I will continue to pledge my support and ensure that we take care of our veterans.
