August 29, 2008 — AngolaSenator Carper was at Angola by the Bay on August 29. 2008 with the USDA to announce funds made available by the 2008 Farm Bill to extend the central sewer to more than 1,500 homes.
August 29, 2008 — Fenwick IslandSenator Carper stopped by the Fenwick Island Farmer's Market to see his "Fruits of Labor" from the Farm Bill, which included specialty crop funding.
August 20, 2008Senator Carper helped present a check to the Law Office of Karen Y. Vicks, which specializes in Social Security Administration claims for individuals with disabilities and veterans. This opportunity was made possible with assistance from the Small Business Administration and Wilmington Trust. Wilmington Trust financed a $50,000 SBA Express loan to Karen Vicks to launch her new office. Ms. Vicks utilized the services of the Dover Small Business Development Center, SBA's counseling resource partner.
August 20, 2008 — HarringtonSenator Carper was at the official opening of the Harrington Truck Route. In August 2005, Senator Carper announced $8.5 million in federal money to build an alternative truck route in Harrington and the project is finally complete.
August 19, 2008 — WilmingtonSenator Carper hosted a press conference at Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in New Castle County to discuss how air pollution creates health problems for Delaware's children. Senator Carper was joined by (l-r) CEO Tom Ferry; Dr. Aaron C. Chidekel, MD, Pediatric Pulmonologist; and Deb Brown, American Lung Association.
August 18, 2008 — LaurelSenator Carper joined four lending agencies as they addressed a group of senior citizens at the Laurel Senior Center to highlight the American Housing Rescue and Foreclosure Prevention Act of 2008, a measure Senator Carper had a hand in crafting. The new housing legislation will give older Americans access to the Federal Housing Administration's Home Equity Conversion Mortgage program.
August 15, 2008 — DoverSenator Carper visited MainStay Suites, the first hotel in Kent County to be certified under the Delaware Hotel Industry's "Green Hotels" initiative, to learn how being "green" makes a difference, on August 15, 2008. Owner Bob Hartly showed the senator that all rooms have kitchenettes and the staff takes a moment to show off the energy-efficient washers and dryers.
August 15, 2008Senator Carper and Congressman Castle visited the Delaware State Fire School to announce $362,500 in federal funding for the Delaware Volunteer Firefighter's Association. They were be joined by members of the DVFA Executive Board and employees of the Fire School, including DVFA Executive Director Jim Cubbage and President Ron Marvel.
