Senator Carper was honored to visit Hares Corner Post Office with Delaware native, Alan Kessler, Chairman of the Board of Governors for the Postal Service. The senator accepted an award from the National Association of Postal Supervisors for his work on the Postal Reform Act of 2006. The award was presented by Mr. Louis Atkins, VP, NAPS, and Angela Garland, President, Delaware State Branch of NAPS.

Senator Carper was honored to meet Marine Lance Corporal Jonathan Steele. Senator Carper participated in "Operation Thank You" in November 2007 at the Bethany-Fenwick Chamber of Commerce and the package he donated to went to Lance Corporal Steele. LC Steele is home on leave and wanted to thank the senator for his donation. He is a member of the HMLA-Marine Light Attack Helicopter - 169th Airframe. They are shown here with Steele's wife, Ashley.

Senator Carper attended the official groundbreaking for Providence Creek Academy. The senator and his office were instrumental in brokering an agreement between St. Joseph's at Providence Creek and Providence Creek Academy and the senator received many thanks for his help. Here, Senator Carper addressed the student body, teachers and friends of PCA in the field where the school will be built.

Senator Carper joined County Executive Chris Coons and Councilwoman Stephanie McClellan for the re-opening of Iron Hill Park in Newark, after a six-month closure to allow the county to undertake a $150,000 park improvement project, including a redone playground and the addition of a "bark park."

Senator Carper accepted the 2008 Champions for Charters award from the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools for his continuing support of charter schools nationwide. Also attending were Ron Russo, Principal of the Charter School of Wilmington; Rob Clemens of the Delaware Charter Network; and Nelson Smith, President of the National Association of Public Charter Schools.
