PLYMOUTH, NH – United States Senator John Sununu (R-NH) praised the work of Communities for Alcohol and Drug-Free Youth (CADY) Coalition at  the organization’s “Harvest Reception” on Friday afternoon (10/10).

“CADY deserves our thanks and praise for its dedication to fighting substance abuse in Grafton County, and I have long-supported the group’s goals,” said Sununu. “By focusing on reducing substance abuse among young people, CADY helps ensure that students are better able to succeed in school and complete their educations.  In early September, CADY’s efforts earned the organization a $125,000 grant to fight substance abuse in Grafton County from the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. I was pleased to support the grant request with a letter to Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings and look forward to working with the member organizations in the future.”

The CADY Coalition, which serves Grafton County communities, will use the funds to implement a regional media campaign to increase substance abuse risk awareness, establish a regional Youth Advisory and Advocacy Council, and increase parent and community education and information resources.

Since April of 2000, the coalition has served the towns of Alexandria, Bridgewater, Bristol, Campton, Danbury, Ellsworth, Groton, Hebron, Holderness, Lincoln, New Hampton, Plymouth, Rumney, Thornton, Waterville Valley, Wentworth, and Woodstock.
