Jay Inslee: Washington's 1st Congressional District
Inauguration 2009
Inauguration Ceremony Tickets and Information
President-elect Barack Obama will be sworn in on January 20, 2009 as the 44thPresident of the United States. Each member of the 111th Congress will receive a small allotment of tickets for their constituents to attend the ceremony.
UPDATE: As of 6:00 p.m. on November 21, Congressman Inslee’s office has now stopped taking tickets requests to the Inauguration ceremony, due to the overwhelming number of requests we have already received, which far exceeds the number of tickets we will receive. However, we will still take names and contact information for constituents interested in additional information about the Inauguration, including non-ticketed areas and other events. Please send contact information to inslee.tickets@mail.house.gov if you would like receive updates from this office.
Constituents of the 1st Congressional District who requested tickets prior to November 21st:
- You will be notified of the status of ticket request by late-November to early-December.
- Tickets CANNOT be mailed. They will be available for pick-up in Congressman Inslee’s Washington, D.C. office on January 19, 2008
- Tickets can ONLY be picked up by the individual who requested the tickets upon presentation of valid photo identification.
Please keep the following in mind when considering going to the inauguration:
- The number of tickets allowed for any party will be necessarily limited in order to maximize the number of families who may participate in this historic event.
- The Joint Congressional Committee on the Inaugural Ceremonies (JCCIC) has issued the following caution: Historically January 20th is a very wet and cold day. All tickets given are standing room only and the lines are very long to enter the ticketed area. On average most people are standing for three to four hours. Also for security reasons liquids, food, backpacks and strollers will not be allowed. If you are planning on bringing your children, this is something to keep in mind.
- The Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC) is responsible for tickets to the Inaugural Parade and the Inaugural Balls. Further information about these events can be found at http://inaugural.senate.gov. The PIC is solely responsible for the distribution of tickets to the parade and balls. The website will post updated information once it becomes available.
