Oberstar Calls on Treasury Secretary to Aid Automakers
Washington DC – Congressman Jim Oberstar is calling on Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson to use money from the bank bailout to keep America’s struggling auto industry afloat. “If the big three automakers go bankrupt, you will see a cascade of business failures and bankruptcies throughout the U.S. economy. Washington DC – Five fire departments in Northeast Minnesota have been awarded $468,662 in federal grants to buy new equipment and provide additional training to first responders. Congressman Jim Oberstar announced the grants from the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grants program today.

Washington DC – Public radio stations in Ely and International Falls will receive federal funding to help make the switch to digital high definition (HD) radio. Today, Congressman Jim Oberstar announced that the Corporation for Public Broadcasting will award WIRC in Ely $64,956 and KITF in International Falls $67,476.
