Fergus Falls High School Band to Represent Minnesota in Inaugural Parade

Group will travel to Washington to march in January 20, 2009 parade

December 8, 2008

Washington, DC – Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) today announced that the Fergus Falls High School Band will represent Minnesota in the 56th Inaugural Parade to be held January 20, 2009.

The Fergus Falls Band was chosen by the Presidential Inaugural Committee, which is charged with selecting parade participants.  The Inaugural parade is a tradition dating back to the inauguration of George Washington in 1789, and contains military units, marching bands, and floats which are reviewed by the President and Vice President as they travel down Pennsylvania Avenue.

The 120 students plan to perform patriotic music during their performance along the parade route.

“The students of the Fergus Falls High School will be excellent representatives of our State in this historic Inaugural,”
said Klobuchar.  “I look forward to welcoming them to Washington.”

“The motto of the Fergus Falls High School Marching Band is ‘Share The Pride.’  Members of the band do this with performances of patriotic marches and a traditional marching style.  The band members, Fergus Falls High School, and the community of Fergus Falls all take pride in the Fergus Falls High School Marching Band.  With the honor of being selected for this historic performance the band members hope that you ‘Share The Pride!’” said Band Directors Scott Kummrow, Jim Iverson, and Denise Wiese.

“It is an honor, and privilege, for the Fergus Falls Marching Band to be selected to march in the historic inaugural parade for President-Elect Obama.  I am confident our marching band will ‘Share The Pride’ of music excellence with our nation and represent Fergus Falls Public Schools, the community of Fergus Falls, and the State of Minnesota well,” said Jerry Ness, Superintendent of the Fergus Falls Public Schools.

The Fergus Falls Band has received numerous honors and national invitations, including Washington D.C.’s Cherry Blossom Festival.

Information about the parade and related Inaugural events open to the public will be available on Senator Klobuchar’s website, www.klobuchar.senate.gov, as plans are announced.
