Veterans

Nothing is more important than honoring Ohio veterans. The men and women of the armed forces have been made a promise that if they defend our country in military service, we will provide them with the benefits they have earned. Serving on the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee is an honor and a duty I do not take lightly.

The Veterans Administration (VA) has for too long been free from the tough Congressional oversight needed to ensure that it meets its obligations to America’s veterans. VA oversight is also vital to ensure that our veterans coming home from Iraq and Afghanistan get the care and benefits they need to make a smooth transition into civilian life.

This section of my website is intended to be a place where Veterans can come for information and assistance. Please use it as a resource when contacting different agencies or to submit a question or case to my office.

VA Clinics

My office has been receiving complaints from veterans about the limited hours of operation at the VA’s outpatient clinics and the hospitals' specialty departments.

Every VA health care facility throughout our country only schedules office visits and tests on weekdays, during normal working hours. Veterans have told us that it is difficult to make it to appointments if they or the people driving them have to be at work during these times. I would greatly appreciate hearing your feedback about this.

Has this been an issue for you? Do you think that the hours at the VA health care facilities should be expanded to evenings and/or weekends to better accommodate veterans who work? Please visit the "Contact the Senator" link to voice your opinion regarding this issue.
