(Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Sen. David Vitter today met with Caddo Parish Registrar of Voters Ernie Roberson to discuss recent allegations of voter fraud in Louisiana and throughout the country. “In recent weeks, we have heard of multiple instances of voter fraud across the nation,” said Vitter. “Here in Shreveport, the Registrar of Voters for Caddo Parish was recently inundated with thousands of improper voter registrations compiled by a group that is now under investigation by the Secretary of State.” Vitter also sent a letter to the U.S. Attorneys for the Western, Middle and Eastern Districts of Louisiana and the Special Agent in Charge of the FBI in New Orleans highlighting examples of alleged voter fraud by such groups as Voting is Power. “In my recent conversations with Ernie and other parish registrars, it has become clear that there is a growing problem of voter fraud in Louisiana,” Vitter said. “In Jefferson Parish, Registrar Dennis DiMarco actually received a fraudulent voter registration card with his own name on it. This is just one of many flagrant examples.” Other examples cited by Vitter in the letter include voter registration cards that do not match home addresses, dates of birth, ethnicity or signatures, and some evidence suggests that VIP may have used telephone books to copy names for registering voters, resulting in people who have been deceased for several years being registered to vote. “Our democracy affords each and every individual the right to his or her own vote. Registering fake names or deceased voters, or falsifying information to register otherwise ineligible voters represents a corruption of the values and principles upon which this country was founded,” said Vitter. A copy of Vitter’s letter is attached. |
