FEINGOLD PRESSES INDIAN GOVERNMENT TO LOWER HARLEY-DAVIDSON TARIFFS

May 30, 3008

New Delhi, India – During a two-day trip to India, Senator Russ Feingold (D-WI) pressed senior government officials to lower the high tariff currently imposed on Harley-Davidson, which has prevented the company from entering the India market on a level playing field. Following his meeting with officials, Feingold released the following statement:

“The high tariff placed on Harley-Davidson is patently unfair, especially since there are no heavyweight motorcycles manufactured in India. Lowering this extremely high tariff would be an important and symbolic move to show us India’s willingness to open its market to American companies, and in turn help promote broader bilateral relations. This is an important issue for Wisconsin workers and I will continue to press it when I return from India.”
