Statement of U.S. Senator Russ Feingold On Senate Passage of the Great Lakes Compact August 1, 2008 “I commend the Senate today for recognizing the urgent need to protect the Great Lakes and quickly passing the Great Lakes Compact. I am very proud of the strong bipartisan support this Compact has received, not only in the Senate, but also from the Great Lakes states and the President. The Great Lakes Compact will protect the health of these precious bodies of freshwater, preventing unnecessary and dangerous diversions of Great Lakes waters. I know the people of Wisconsin feel strongly about the importance of preserving the Lakes for future generations. I urge the House of Representatives to follow the Senate’s lead and quickly approve the Compact.”
