Rep. McCarthy Reminds Constituents: Contact the IRS and Update Your Address in Order to Receive Your Rebate Check

Rep. McCarthy Reminds Constituents: Update Your Address with the IRS by November 28, 2008.

The Internal Revenue Service is looking for taxpayers who are missing more than 19,000 economic stimulus checks and more than 8,500 regular refund checks that were returned by the U.S. Postal Service due to mailing address errors.

If you think you are missing a stimulus check or a refund check take a few minutes to go online to IRS.gov which is accessible 24 hours a day.  All you need to do is update your address once and the IRS will send out all checks that are due.  For those who do not have access to internet, you can call 1-866-234-2942.  It is important to note that taxpayers who are missing a stimulus check must update their addresses with the IRS by November 28, 2008.  By law, economic stimulus checks must be sent out by December 31 of this year.

Regular New York refund checks are resent as soon as the taxpayers update their address.  Use the “Where’s My Refund” tool on IRS.gov or you can access the telephone version by calling 1-800-829-1954.
