U.S. Oil Use by Sector: The transportation sector, including fuel for cars, trucks, and airplanes, accounts for 69 % of our oil use in the United States. In order to reduce our dependence on foreign oil, it is imperative that we produce and use non-oil based fuels made from American resources. Ethanol, bio-diesel, and coal-to-liquid fuels are viable alternatives.
