Crapo Campus: Info for Students

Useful Links

The political process is one that figures into our daily lives, and many students are either interested in the process or need to know more about it for a government class. Listed below are some brief descriptions and links to areas I think students will find of interest.

As an Eagle Scout myself, I am pleased that so many Idaho young men and women are participating in the scouting programs. Both Scout programs provide a citizenship merit badge that requires knowing details about your community and how the federal government works. You are also welcome to write a letter to me about an issue of concern to you.

Fewer than 4 percent of all Scouts earn the Eagle rank, which makes it all the more impressive. Many of America's leaders in business, politics, industry, science, literature, education and other fields achieved this rank. I am also happy to hear about your successes in scouting and would love to send congratulations letters to those who have achieved Eagle and Gold Scout rank. Please send an email to Dorothy Boger in my office who coordinates those greetings. You may also wish to request a congratulations greeting from the President.

United States Senate Youth Program

The United States Senate Youth Program, which began in 1962 through a Senate Resolution,   provides opportunities for high school juniors and seniors to deepen their knowledge of the Senate and the federal government overall, as well as receive a one-time $5,000 college scholarship to the undergraduate college of their choice. The program is sponsored by the Senate each year to encourage high school students to pursue careers in public service.

Two high school juniors or seniors are selected each year from each state, the District of Columbia and the Department of Defense Education Activity to serve as delegates to Washington Week, a week-long educational program that takes place in Washington, D.C.  For more details on the applications process, please visit the United States Senate Youth Program website.

Participating in mock debate

Frequently I am contacted by students, both from Idaho and out of state, who are participating in mock debates in their government classes. They are interested in gathering information on my position on various issues. Please visit the Spotlight on the Issues section on the homepage and the Issues section of this website to learn more about my thoughts on certain subjects. You may also wish to review my bio, awards I have received and information about prostate cancer, all of which are found elsewhere on this site.

Congressional Awards logo imageCongressional Awards

The Congressional Awards program was started in 1979 to provide recognition to youth who are performing good works in their communities. Idaho has consistently had high participation in this great program, which encourages volunteer efforts and community involvement.

Military Academy nominations

Idaho has many outstanding students, and each year I am able to assist in nominations to our nation's four military academies. This section will give you details on applying, deadlines and other information that you will find useful.

Senate internships

One of my first experiences in politics was as a congressional intern, and it was an exciting opportunity. My offices on Capitol Hill and throughout Idaho offer paid internships, which give participants a taste of public service and more knowledge about the federal government. Click here to learn more about becoming an intern in my office.

Financial Aid and Scholarship Information

The Congressional Research Service (CRS) has a website for students searching for financial aid. This website includes an overview of federal student aid programs, links to private scholarship information and information for parents.
