Representative Davis Moves to Improve Benefits for Military Personnel and their Families
The Duncan Hunter National Defense Authorization Act for 2009 (S.3001) was recently signed into law by President Bush.  As chair of the Military Personnel Subcommittee, Rep. Davis successfully pushed through dozens of provisions supporting service members and their families.  Highlights include:

  • Provides a 3.9 percent pay raise, an increase of 0.5 percent above the President’s request;
  • Prohibits increases in TRICARE co-pays and deductibles and restores the nearly $1.2 billion in savings assumed in the President’s budget proposal;
  • Prohibits TRICARE pharmacy co-pay increases for a year;
  • Establishes a tuition assistance program for eligible military spouses
  • Provides $50 million in Impact Aid, and additional $15 million for local educational agencies
