South Suburban Third Airport in Will County

Congressman Weller believes an airport built in Will County should be operated by and responsible to the citizens of Will County. 

Rep. Weller was successful in passing an amendment in 2005 to ensure local control of the third suburban airport, and that an open and honest procurement process is followed in the awarding of airport contracts.  Mr. Weller will continue to press our efforts as we seek to build this airport.  It will serve as a means of economic development for Will County and the surrounding communities as well as bring much needed congestion relief to O’Hare and Midway airports.

Congressman Weller has continued the fight for local control, along with the bi-partisan elected leadership of Will County.  Read the Congressman's comments at a public meeting concerning the third airport in Will County here.

Congressman Weller has met with former Chairman John Mica of the House Transportation Subcommittee on Aviation, former Speaker Dennis Hastert, and Secretary of Transportation Norman Mineta to discuss the Will County plan.  All were in agreement that Will County is on the correct and established path for financing, building and operating a county-run airport.
