Congressman Crenshaw Supports Energy Bill

Legislation is a First Step, but America Must Develop a More Comprehensive Solution

December 18, 2007

(Washington, DC) – Congressman Ander Crenshaw today voted in favor of the Energy Independence and Security Act, HR 6, which passed the House today with a vote of 314-100.

“As gas prices continue to skyrocket, our country desperately needs a comprehensive energy policy to increase domestic oil production, research renewable energy sources, increase efficiency standards, and reduce our dependence on foreign oil,” said Congressman Crenshaw.  “While this legislation falls short of fully addressing these concerns, it is an important first step to help make America energy independent.  I firmly believe we need to follow up this legislation with additional steps to increase domestic energy production and reduce our dependence on foreign oil in order to realize an effective long-term solution to today’s energy crisis.”

In addition to increasing fuel efficiency standards, this bill also includes numerous new energy standards for appliances, lighting, and building codes; sets new energy-efficiency standards for residential, school, commercial, industrial and federal buildings, including the U.S. Capitol grounds; and promotes methods to increase the efficiency of electricity usage through "smart grid" technology.
