Rep. Crenshaw Frustrated by the Democrat “No Energy Congress”

Congressman Says “It’s Time to Get Something Done for American Families and Businesses”

September 12, 2008

WASHINGTON, D.C. – With only 12 days left in the 2008 legislative calendar, the Democrat leadership has continued to obstruct an up or down vote on the American Energy Act – which would be an “all of the above,” comprehensive approach to solving America’s current energy crisis.

“When it comes to solving the energy challenges in the United States, this is a ‘No Energy Congress,’” said Rep. Crenshaw. “If the Democrats can’t come up with any substantial ideas of their own to solve America’s energy problems, they should allow the Republicans to have a vote on their proposal, the American Energy Act.

The American Energy Act would open up ANWR and offshore areas to oil and gas drilling – increasing the amount of American-made energy production.  The comprehensive legislation would also focus on increasing domestic conservation and efficiency through tax credits for energy efficient purchases made by taxpayers and businesses.  The “All of the Above” energy bill – as it is often referred to because of it’s multi-pronged approach – also includes a heavy emphasis on investment into clean and renewable energy sources like nuclear, wind, solar, and bio-fuels.

“There isn’t a debate on how to solve the crisis.  Every American knows that we must do all of these things to become energy independent.  The debate is why Congress is satisfied to sit on its hands and do nothing while the American people continue to be hit hard at the gas pump,” said Rep. Crenshaw.

“Pelosi led Democrats know Americans are fed up with the high prices of gas and want something done; however, they are more interested in saving political face then they are of saving Americans from continued financial grief.”

“When it comes to solving America’s energy crisis, the Democratic led Congress is as effective when on vacation as it has been in session,” said Rep. Crenshaw.
