Hudson, NY - Today, local Congresswoman Kirsten
Gillibrand announced that the Hensonville Hose Company, located in
Hensonville, Greene County was awarded a federal grant from the
Department of Homeland Security. The company was awarded $84,778 under
the Assistance for Firefighters grant for operations and safety.
"Support for our volunteer firefighters is critical to improving the
safety and security of our rural communities," said Congresswoman
Gillibrand, a Member of the House Armed Services Committee. "These
funds will go a long way to giving our firefighters the tools they need
to provide these vital services."
The Congresswoman
recently announced that she will cosponsor the SERVE Act; legislation
that will provide volunteer firefighters and emergency medical
technicians (EMT's) a $1,000 tax credit to encourage volunteering in
the local community and demonstrate commitment to those who risk their
lives to protect their neighbors.
Last April, the
U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced the beginning of the
fiscal year 2007 application period for the Assistance to Firefighters
Grant (AFG) program. The program makes more than $492 million available
for the awards. Funding may go toward activities such as training,
equipment, personal protective equipment, wellness and fitness, and
health and safety modifications to stations and facilities.
