Today, local Congresswoman Kirsten Gillibrand, addressed the U.S. House of Representatives and applauded the contributions that hunters and fishermen have in promoting family values, environmental conservation, and strengthening our local, state and national economies.

The passage of H.Res 634, which Gillibrand authored, kicks off "Sportsmen's Week" in the U.S. House of Representatives.  The resolution is one among a package of bills that highlight the contributories made by sportsmen and will to be considered by the House this week.

The resolution, which has the support of the National Rifle Association, highlights the origins of National Hunting and Fishing Day, which was authorized under a Joint Resolution in 1971, and is celebrated nation-wide on the fourth Saturday in September.

The Congresswoman, a Member of the Congressional Sportsmen's Caucus said, "Coming from a family full of hunters and fishermen, I wanted to highlight the contributions that they make to our nation's rich culture.  With turkey season, just around the corner, this was an opportune time to encourage all Americans to get into the outdoors and participate in these rich traditions."
