Grant will fund a reading program in Hudson

June 13, 2007

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Kirsten Gillibrand announced that the Hudson Area Association Library will receive a $10,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to organize a reading program in Hudson.   Funding is provided through the Big Read program, a program designed to promote the reading and discussion of classical literature.

"As a mother of a three year old son, I understand the importance of instilling a passion for reading at an early age. The Hudson Library is a gem in the city, and I am committed to supporting their efforts in expanding their community outreach efforts."  Congresswoman Gillibrand continued, "The Big Read program makes reading exciting and fun for people of all ages, and I am looking forward to seeing this program implemented in Hudson"

The matching grant provides the Hudson Area Association Library support materials to promote reading, including reader’s guides for students and community participants, teacher’s guides, audio introductions to the book, a comprehensive website and television and radio spots.   The Hudson Area Association Library in Hudson was among 118 communities selected to participate in the Big Read program this fall.
