Gillibrand Announces Over $3.8 Million in Funding for Upstate Community Development | Print |

Saratoga Springs, NY – Today, local Congresswoman Kirsten Gillibrand announced that communities throughout the 10-county area she represents were awarded grants totalling $3,850,000.  The funds are part of the New York State Community Development Block Grant program, which the state receives from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development.  

The recipients of the funding are as follows:

§       $600,000 for the City of Hudson in Columbia County for Wastewater Treatment Plant Improvements

§       $400,000 for the Town of Walton in Delaware County for Housing Rehabilitation

§       $600,000 for the Town of Middletown in Delaware County for Improvements to the Arkville Water District

§       $450,000 for the Greene County Workforce Homeownership Program

§       $600,000 for the City of Mechanicville in Saratoga County for Sanitary Sewer Overflow Mitigation

§       $400,000 for the Town of Lake Luzerne in Warren County for Improvements to the Senior Center

§       $400,000 for the Town of Queensbury in Warren County for Housing Rehabilitation


“At this time of economic uncertainty, these investments are critical for the development of our Upstate communities,” said Congresswoman Gillibrand a Member of the House Armed Services Committee.  “I am happy that I was able to assist these communities receive this vital funding.” 

Lake Luzerne Supervisor Gene Merlino said, “There are a lot of people to thank and I am really appreciative of Congresswoman Gillibrand’s support of this grant. With everybody working together, this is going to be a great asset for our seniors and Lake Luzerne.”

The Congresswoman recently hosted a grants workshop in Saratoga County to connect area leaders with state and federal funding opportunities as part of her commitment to increase economic development opportunities for local residents, and to help our region obtain vital federal investments in order to create good paying jobs, grow local businesses and help lower local property taxes. 

Since taking office, the Congresswoman has announced more than $24 million dollars in federal and state investment in the 20th Congressional District.
