Gillibrand Votes to Protect National Security | Print |

Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Kirsten Gillibrand voted for H.R. 3773, the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act amendments, to modernize the foreign surveillance system.  This bill is intended to replace the temporary Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) that expired last month.

“After a tumultuous start to the FISA discussion, I am pleased that negotiators were able to pull together a FISA bill that provides the intelligence community the modern tools they need to find and capture terrorists before they act,” said Congresswoman Gillibrand.  “Enhancing American’s security at home and abroad is a priority that should be second to none.”

This bill updates the FISA law to allow warrantless wiretapping of foreign-to-foreign communications even if the wireless signal or internet signal passes through a server in the United States.

“America needs this improvement to the surveillance laws and it is my hope that the President will drop his insistence on coupling this national security issue with the political issue of telecom immunity and sign this bill,” said Congresswoman Gillibrand.
